DI LUCE E OMBRA (2005)

for flute, bass clarinet, harp, 2 violins, viola and cello

The piece draws its materials from two distinct sources: Harmonic series and Byzantine enharmonic genera. Each material forms its own section, which alternate throughout the piece. The title of the piece, …of light and shadow also refers to these alternating sections. The parts where only harmonics are used possess an ethereal quality and the ones with the Byzantine harmonies are somber and earthly.  String instruments use a special scordatura corresponding to harmonics of a low C spectrum.

The score is availble through Babel Scores.
